Hello, my name is Phakhwan Sappawat, but everyone calls me “Bam”. I’m from Suankularb Wittayalai Thonburi school. I’m an exchange student for the year 2019-2020 in the United States of America. I’m studying in grade 11, at Calhoun High school, Port Lavaca, Texas.
First, I would like to share my experiences with my host family. I’m living with Gift family of five members; Mrs. Janet (host mom), Mr. Harold (host dad), Littorina/tori (host sister), Neal and Tyrel (host brothers) and also, with a partner exchange student from Taiwan, named Jenny. They all are just hilarious. They have taught me about their culture, which is one of the best ways that we can learn only from the people in here. We live by Magnolia beach and we usually walk down to the beach at least twice a week. I’m really impressed when I first came here. As they knew my speaking skill of English is not fluency, and might not be able to understand their accents. They succeeded in making me talk and shared testimonials about being with exchange students from the past few years. No doubt, it really makes me feel more comfortable talking with them.
Next, I want to share my experiences about the school here. I feel like some of the class might be a little complicated, but in general it was easier and more interesting than the one in Thailand. In my school, every student is treated equal the same. I didn’t expect much that exchange student would be more special. My friends here were nice and jovial. When I first came, I was afraid approaching to them, because they might not be able to understand my accent, but after all, I started talking to them without any fear. They all were kind and always helped me when I struggled through my understandings.
Finally, I’m glad that I made a right decision, because this doesn’t teach me only a better English skill, but more basic living skills, which is quite helpful and useful for my future career. These experiences were incredible. I feel like I’m so lucky, because I am placed with an amazing host family, or a guardianship. Being able to speak a second language is such a great advantage to me. These experiences will always be with me and it might be the best lesson I ever learnt in my life. Sometimes there might be some problem, but it is always be the new lesson for my life. Hence, If I have a chance, I would probably come back to visit my host family and all of my friends.
