My first conversation between my host mom, “Jennifer,” and me, began with, “How can I pronounce your name,” She pronounced my name “Kun” but “Kung Napatkrit Asavarojpanich,” is the accurate pronunciation. I am from Bangkok Christian College in Thailand, and I was an exchange student in Long Creek, Oregon. There were many exchange students at Long Creek School, from several different countries. I lived with the Garinger family. My host family was very nice and helped me with everything. When I didn’t understand a word or phrase, they would help to explain another way, so everyone understood. In my family, there are four brothers, one who is in the same class with me. I would say that U.S. History was the hardest subject for me at Long Creek School, but my brother helped me study for every test. He also helped to explain my homework or summarized my lessons when we were at home. Sometimes, he would even find a video to assist my understanding.

 Long Creek School encouraged students to play sports to help unite the students and community. I chose to play soccer and basketball. It was so much fun. It was the first time in my life that l played competitive sports.  I have never played any sports in Thailand, but in Long Creek it helped me learn and try to do something new. One of the big differences between Thailand and America is culture and tradition. For example, in America, people are mostly Christian, but in Thailand most people are Buddhists.

 I enjoyed being an exchange student very much. I learned many new things, and the experiences helped me try to do new activities, especially making new friends and experiencing a new culture. The exchange program was the best opportunity for me to do this.
